Hey guys I was wondering if anyone can help me. My brake lights just quit working on my 68 cougar. I have tested the brake light switch on the pedal and it is fine. Any suggestions? Please.

Oh, yeah, my parking lights and signals are still working.

How did you check the switch? Ohm meter? Test light? Installed or out of the car?
Do you have power to the switch?

Do you have a wiring diagram for the 68? All I have is for the 69, but it seems to me that the brake light circuit runs through the turn signal switch in the column as well.

Also, check that there isn't a circuit breaker behind the dash for the brake light circuit.

I had a switch in my first 69 that worked if you pushed on it hard enough. I ended up shimming it with a matchbook cover between the rod and switch until I could buy a new one.

Thanks RKTMN, I think I have traced the problem this morning to the emergency flasher switch in the steering column, it is wastd so I will have to replace it. Thanks for the help.
