Can the head light lamps be upgraded to halogen lamps on a 68?

How about the tail lights, brake lights and turn signals, can these bulbs be upgraded to be brighter?

Yes, here's a link to exterior light components: www.cougarpartscatalog.com/19671968.html . The taillight kit is the 3rd and 4th one and the halogen headlights are further down about the 35th and 36th item on the link. John

Hella makes bulb housings that take cartridge H4 and H1 bulbs, there may be another manufacturer as well, but I would recommend staying away from the chinese junk (which there is a lot of out there). The Hella stuff is not cheap but works well, almost drop-in. You'll need a headlight relay system as well to go with the bulbs, they draw too much current to be used with the stock headlight switch. For that I recommend the kits that Bob at RCCI (http://www.rccinnovations.com) sells.

Regards,

Bob

As Bob stated with the relay setup. You will definately need it with the halogen bulbs.
I'm still running standard incandescant bulbs, but the relays made them at least 50% brighter due to the full power now getting to them.

A little off the topic but what about LED headlamps? How do they compare OEM vs Halogen vs LED?

Direct replacement halogen bulbs are available from most car parts stores as #H5001 (low beam - outer) and #H5006 (high beam - inner) for 4 headlight systems. They are usually less than $10.00 a piece. http://www.brandsport.com/wagl-h5001.html

It is advisable to add relays to the headlight circuit to keep the built-in circuit breaker from randomly tripping due to the higher current draw.
