On my original 3.00 rear end on the front going to the drive shaft there or it looks like a sheild that bolts on the housing.Now on my4.11 there is no such thing. My question is do you need it?Or is it some kind of safty measure.
Often that 'shroud' had a rubber snubber on top of it that would limit the travel of the housing. Some old-time racers would put an adjustable snubber on here and make a poor-man's traction bar to limit rear end housing wind-up on hard acceleration.

my 70 has that as well i think cougarcj is right on what he said. I think its just a shield so the driveshaft doesnt hit the floor i am not sure
