Greetings...
I'm new here, and I'm working on my 1973 Cougar convertable. I bought this car 5 years ago. Did all the bodywork and such, only to have large problems with the motor. not knowing a whole lot about what i was doing, I took the recommendation of a friend and bought a short block from Kragan, which we installed. after putting the heads and all on, the car ran for about a week when the coolant started coming out the tailpipe in the form of white smoke, and even stranger, it seemed to be coming up the carb. in frustration, I shelved the project.

Now, I've gotten a lot more experience on motors (mostly motorcycles) and want to get this thing running. I know my first step is to pull the heads, but I don't want to do it blindly. Is there a shop manual that is worth owning to guide me through this project? Is there something beyond a head gasket/cracked head inspection I should do?
I checked the oil in the motor, it appeared to be black still, no signs of "milkyness" or coolant contamination..


Any input would be appriciated.
