So the C4 lost 3rd and Reverse on the way home from the Car Craft Nationals last summer and the 289 will need to be replaced or rebuilt in the near future. I found a 92 Lincoln Mark VIII with the 5.0 HO and AOD. If I kill two birds with one stone, what modifications (if any besides the crossmember) would I need for the transmission swap? If I just buy an AOD and do it, i know that PATC has the entire kit for $600, but I'm assuming I wouldn't need most of it if I do the engine and tranny together.

Any technical advice?

Thanks!!!

I have not swapped in an AOD trans, so I can't answer the particulars. I do have some general knowledge that may help you out though. The AOD is a wider trans, do you have headers and dual exhaust? That may be a headache. Does the 92 trans have a push button for the OD function? You will have find a spot to put that. Also, and this is VERY IMPORTANT, you MUST have the correct throttle linkage set up, for the transmission to work properly. There is at least one member on the board who didn't have his throttle and trans mated properly and killed said AOD trans.
Here is some reading for you,

You'll need to change the engine oil pan and pickup tube for the oil pump. And probably make provisions for the oil dipstick.
