Hello new to the forum I recently purchased a 1984 murcury cougar project its origanaly a 3.8l car but has been 302 swapped with an 86 302 of un known origan after installing a new starter and ignition coil the ignition coil is getting extremely hot so I'm thinking I'm going to do away with the piss poor wiring job thats been done but was wondering how hard its going to be to rewire ive determind its a duraspak ignition coil and am thinking of just strait wiring the coil and distributed any tips tricks or thing I should know before I venture any further

duraspark uses a ballast resistor to reduce the voltage when in the run position ... without it you will cook the coil ... here is a basic wiring diagram for the system ...
