Hi, I'm working on my friends 84 cougar. its a v8 he has had issues with the ac and I've tried everything and still cant get it to work, I'm also asking because my 86 thunderbird with a 351 has the same issue, the Ac pump doesn't engage.

does any body know about this issue? I'm not in a rush since it January.

That's a broad subject to address, you need to read up on some basic A/C troubleshooting and go from there. In short, the compressor has a shut-off switch that will not let it start if the pressure in the system is too low (low on freon), but it could also be a host of other things. Sometimes I will get a connector that fits the clutch connections on the compressor (either 1/4 inch flat spades or an old connector stolen off another car) and feed it 12v and ground. That will tell you if the clutch works at all. But there is a lot of things that could cause this. Do you have a meter that can check for power here and there? That will help a lot.
