I have done 5...so at least 6 ;)...I think there were 9700 convertibles with standard and xr7 and in 1970, 4500 combined...but that is just off the top of my head have to check the number book to be sure....

My S code doesn't exaclty have a heartbeat but she will be on the road one of these years.....I wouldn't be surprised if there were a larger percentage of verts that survived due to the fact they are more seasonal cars and saw a lot less driving than your DD would have. Seemed more collectible right out of the litter box so to speak......

Best ask Phil. He has the database. Some of it says whether a car was scrapped or crushed. I don't know how you can expect to get more than an estimate on this figure.

I have had a total of twelve 1969 convertibles; 11 were XR7's (two 428CJ Ram-Airs, one non-Ram-Air, eight were 2V or 4V 351 cars) and one was a non-XR7 (a STD 428 CJ Ram-Air). Three of the eight 351's were parts cars, all now scrapped.

I have a 69 XR7 Vert. Engine & trans are out of it right now!! Original 351W 4V with FMX. I also came across another 69 XR7 Vert a couple of weeks ago. Almost exactly like mine.

Mine is a 95% complete from full restoration. It's going into the registry as soon as I get it back.

Tough to say how many are still out there and driving or very close to it but my personal (generous) estimate is that there are no more than 2000 remaining.

Any guess would be like cost estimates on National Healthcare or savings from National Healthcare...lol

Honestly....

There is no way to know unless you have access to every state DMV to run a search on partial vins to see...the registry probably only has a small portion of the car just because many people don't know about it or are like me forget to send him the info when I get one...

well, just got this from Phil Parcells. (thx Phil)

Of the 5,796 Cougar convertibles built in 1969, there are 479 registered with us that are condition 4 or better. We consider condition 4 still a road-worthy car.

that's only 8 1/2% of the original production run...wow.

I don't think the data base is all that accurate. I doubt my vert is in it and she's a nice driver. I doubt my old S code vert that has been restored, then sold, by a new owner, is in it either.

Even if you doubled the number it is still low.

this from Phil. works out to 8 1/2 % or the original production run

Yea, I read that and I also met Mr. Parcells back in 2004.
I've never pulled a marti report on my current vert. I did pull one on the S code before I bought it.

Does anyone know if just pulling a marti report auto-adds the VIN to the data base?

I believe that there are many many more 69 verts out there that aren't on the data base.

8.5% is a good figure to start from. Like Jeff stated, I am sure there are many more '69 verts out there that aren't in the data base!

my .02 cents
