Not sure what is going on with my 289. It will run well for 30 to 40 minutes, then it starts smoking out the driver side, and I mean smoking. Stop it and let it sit for a couple hours and it will go for another 30 minutes or so. It doesn't smoke when first started. I have done a dry compression check, all cylenders are about 118 to 125. Any ideas?

Leaky valve cover gaskets or intake manifold gasket end seals.

I just replaced them, took the top end apart and took a good look. Guess I should have said it smokes out the driver side tail pipe. I know the engine is tired, it is original with 160,000 plus, but it just seems strange that it takes 30 to 40 minutes to start pumping out blue smoke.

Sounds like your rings are bad. When you first start the car the oil is cold and thick as the car warms up the oil gets thinner and gets by the rings and burns in the combustion camber.

squirt some oil in each cylinder and then do a compression test if the compression goes up from what it was then the rings are bad. If not it could be the oil seals in the heads.
