Hello everyone,

I will be pulling my motor next weekend and want to know what type of maintenance I should due to the Manual transmission when it comes out. I have a 69 code "5" 4-Speed tranny.

To my knowledge the car hasn’t ran in about 7 years but who knows how long it really was. In my efforts to get the motor running I was able to get the car to engage in all four gears.

1. What should I check on it because it sat so long?
2. What do I have to buy no matter what?
3. What I should buy just as a precautionary measure?

Thanks in advance!:D

I would just pull the top cover off and check to see that every thing looks ok. Gives you a chance to eyeball the syncros, gears and such. If all looks good I would just dump the old grease out, install new tailshaft and front seal ( you have to unbolt the front brg retainer to get to it) and refill with new 80-90 and let it go at that. mm

SOUNDS RIGHT

Top loader 4-speeds are very durable. If all looks good, chances are you'll be fine. By the way, I love your combination. I always wanted a 69 xr7 4-speed windsor car.. Have fun..
