Always good info here! First of I should have never put a auto zone dura dont last altinator on the cat! Any way first one tests bad the new one still dont work and find that the (ignition)) wire didnt have any voltage to it lost somewhere thru the dash! worked fine for a day or two now even when the ignition wire is jumped nothing! So the 64 dollar question is it ok to get power from the coil for that wire?????

You want a switched, non-fused 12 volt source. The best place is the ignition switch though. Also, you should have a 500 ohm resistor on that wire.

It's a good idea to have the alternator tested before you leave the store. Insist on it. I had problems with a replacement alt for my old Astro. Not an easy part to R&R.
