390 is .......

Junk, throw it away!

Just kidding. You've got an S Code Cougar. It's a desireable combination.

The 390 was Ford's work horse engine. It was made for every use imaginable. There were 390 HPs in 1960 that made 390 Horse Power. My dad had a 390 2 bbl that made 265 HP in his 1968 LTD. It was also used in Thunderbirds (some with triple 2 bbl carbs), Mustangs and Cougar beginning in 1967, Fairlanes/Cyclones/ Torinos/ Montegos etc. It was torquey, if not necessarily the quickest motor in 2bbl form.

It's an FE (Ford-Edsel) engine, also in the Family are the 352, 410, 427, 428 and 428CJ. They all look very similar.
Here's a couple of links:

Tim is right on. Also fe engines not listed are the 360, 406 and if memory serves there was a 330 something. These are all in addition to the whole line of medium duty truck engines like the 332, 361 and 391

That 390 is JUNK you should pull it as ASAP and ship it to me in Oregon.:D

J/K you will love that motor in a 69 cat. I have one its more than enough motor to embarass the 5.0 punks.

I wouldn't doubt that France has 5.0L punks as well.

Seems to be a requirement that if you drive a 5.0 you must be an ignorant dink who thinks that their car is the fastest thing ever produced.

OK, I'm not gonna get all bent out of shape about the 5.0 punk comments, but I at least gotta defend myself and some of my friends.

I admit there are a lot of "punks" running around in 5.0's, but I believe we have passed the "I'm the fastest thing on the road" torch to the import guys now. At least the 5.0 "punks" are driving American V8 muscle, and have reason to believe they're fast.

Does anyone know where I can get an F40 wing and a coffee can size exhaust tip for my XR7?? Cause I know if I add those to my car, it will be a rocket.

Darel,

It's OK I've had 5.0s too (Capri and Mustang), I think it's an attitude thing kids growing up have. I'm not a punk either, not at 45 lol.
