Hi Everyone, I have a 79 cougar XR7 with a 302.

I had to remove the muffler because it was already banged up and leaky from my grandpa taking it into the ditch a while back.
So my question is:
Put a brand new stock exhaust system back on?
or
Do some kind of dual exhaust system?
I wouldn't mind it having a deeper tone to it, but I also do not want it sounding like a truck.
What are your opinions? Any kind of advice would be great!

Thanks

Personally, I'd just leave it stock. Most aftermarket systems and parts will tend to make it loud and few things are sillier than one of those cars with loud exhaust.

Now, a free flowing system could help with power and economy but you'd have to do some real engineering in order to achieve a system that flows well and complements the unique characteristics of a smog era carbureted engine while still being silent. Not impossible but more involved than just eyeballing it.
