I just bought a 71 xr7, guy before me tapped a tree in the ice and the hood wont unhinge without unbolting it through the grille. Any ideas on how to fix this?

It's gonna take quite a bit of checking measuring on your part. I assume it not obvious where it's bent? It's obviously tweaked a bit but there is a certain amount of adjustability in the latch itself you can play with. There usually 2 bolts on either side you can loosen and adjust it as needed. Otherwise you are going to need to look at the support structure and see if you can "persuade' it back into position.

One method we have used was to remove the rad and fron end pieces - put a 4x4 with a chain on the inside and hook it up the the truck hitch and slowly tug/pull in various places to get it back into shape...cheaper than a frame stretcher/shop

I fixed it just by bending in the hole the latch sits in, the locking mechanism watch being pressed on to where it wouldn't allow it to move, after a small bend, no more problem, thanks

LOL gotta like the easy ones! Glad it wasn't more involved than that...
