Great question ! This is the reason why CCOA has started a special registry recognizing the 71-73 Q code cars . We are trying to get as many registered to the site to document and get photos of these rare cars ! So , the short answer is , after owning two original Q code cars ,Speaking with many experienced part suppliers , club members and scanning every Q code I could find .here is I what I know so far . 1971 only 1 Q code made , no idea what lid ! In 1972 most were chrome, some displayed 351-4V some 351-CJ . In 72 the CJ was rated 262 Hp motor w “ quite exhaust package and standard 12” torque converter w/ C 6 transmission standard . Also there was a Cobra Jet performance group package which was optional , the automatic C6 included a higher stall 10 1/4” torque converter , “ sporty exhaust “ and a better suspension package . This package was also included on all 4 speed cars . One might think the cars equipped with the cobra Jet performance package would have revived the 351-CJ decal ? Not so , I have seen the 4V decal on those packaged cars ! Some people say it’s whatever decal they had
at the time . By 1973 I have not seen ANY w/ chrome lid yet . That does not mean they don’t exist, just still trying to get all these cars registered and documented so we can get a more accurate picture . By the way , I have documentation of two 73 Q code models , both blue lids one with 351-4V and one with 351-CJ . Both cars have under 20k miles and are original!

Thank you. Per the Marti report, mine was shipped into Canada. It has a black lid with a worn decal that says 351-4v. The car has original paint and interior but certainly needs work and still has the original decals in the engine bay.
I purchased a new Q code in June 1973 and I kinda think it had a chrome lid.
I’d search 25 years to find a Q code coupe to restore. View attachment 118549
Very nice ! Make sure you log into the Cougar Club Of America site and register in the Q code registry! These cars are rare and we want to get them all documented!

Yes, I will tomorrow. I just got the car last week after a month in transit. Crossing back into USA required a lot of paperwork handled by Cole International. I’m still deciding whether to leave it white or paint it Ivy Glamour like mine back in 73.
Awesome ! When you register send pics ! More info the better . Data tag info on door . Even Marti report if you have one . I did the same thing . Had a Q code in 1980 and forty three years later after a 12 year search located the one I have today about 3 months ago !
