1969 Eliminator figures- 66351 Hardtops which 2250 were deemed Eliminators.

428CJ-4V Non Ram Air w/4 Speed- Total 99 Hardtops-58
428CJ-4V Non Ram Air w/Auto- Total 277 Hardtops-87

428CJ-4V With Ram Air w/4 Speed- Total 383 Hardtops-204
428CJ-4V With Ram Air w/Auto- Total 781 Hardtops-304

Sorry I do noy have a break down of what engines were in the 2250 Eliminator Packages. The Eliminator package was considered a trim option so its hard to get a breakdown of what engines and their numbers were produced. If my thinking is correct, most if not all of the 4-V Ram Air 428's were 4.33's but I could be mistaken on this....

Production Numbers

This is a good question; someday I'll buy the book Cougar by the Numbers from Marti. For now I've seen Tom Cherry (aka Hawk Rod) quote 58 cougar std hardtops with 428 4-speed (www.superford.org/registry/vehicles/index.php?vID=1811&fs=&dni=1&vs0=_2593_&vs). I'm not sure about 428 4V with 3:91 or 4:30 gears to upgrade to a SCJ.

Those are interesting ##s Kirk on the Ram Air vs non Ram Air.

Anyone else got information on the 428 4V with 3:90 or 4:30, with 4-Speed or Auto? 69 or 70?

yes the number is 58 on the marti report. the car is a std hardtop 428 4 speed and is non ram air. note that this number is the same as quoted above by fastcat. the SCJ engine was only used on cars with 3.91 or 4.30 gears and any one of the combos above were available that way. personally i have only seen a couple of SCJ's and they have been mostly ram air but not all and one was even an automaic XR-7. most of the 428 cars are ram air but few are drag pack and most cars have 3.50 gears although some like mine were ordered with other ratios. hawkrod

1970 428CJ figures- 49479 Hardtops which 2267 were deemed Eliminators.

428CJ-4V w/4 Speed- Total 270 Hardtops-215
428CJ-4V w/Auto- Total 570 Hardtops-243
302 Hardtops were produced with a ram-air hood.

Again, it is impossible to know from the Marti book how many of these hardtops were Eliminators.

I was reading a Car Craft or Hotrod mag or one of those magazines, THey did the top ten cougars and they said that to date they havent found a 428 Eliminator with Ram air and a 4.30 Detroit locker. Dosent mean it does not exist though. I have the Ram Air and 3.91 on my coug. My brother had the same setup in his old cougar he sold too.

Hey hawkrod, I just naturally assumed your's was Ram Air but now that I go back and look.....I see that I can't see (your hood that is). What is that red nose cone (I think?) on your 428SCJ?

Tad, I found this on cars-on-line.com. You've more than likely seen it...Yellow R Code Eliminator Drag Pak. I too have not seen an R Code Cougar with 4:30 gears.

428 Eliminators

There are eight super drag pak[4:30] two with ram air and seventeen drag pak[3:91] also two with ram air1970 Eliminators in the registry.

There are sixty five ram air[R code] eleven drag pak[3:91] and four super drag pak [4:30] 1969 Eliminators in the registry. and

ten non ram air [Qcode] with three of them being [3:91] rears in the 1969 Eliminator registry.

I have the figures somewhere from Kevin on how many 428 CJ cars were four speed Eliminators and how many were automatics.
I will post them when I find them.

Eh! Those are great numbers! I own a 1969 428cj Eliminator ,automatic, drum brakes, open 3.25 rearend!!I have the Lois Eminger Invoice for the car.It needs restoration and that takes time and $$$.I want get my baby done first,a 1969 XR7 428CJ Ram Air 4-speed Convertible, Red with black interior.I was wondering if anybody has any leads on a set of NOS 1969 wire wheel covers for this car.I know a CJ convertile with wire wheel covers,YUK.That is the way it was ordered in '69 and I want to have it the way it came from the factory.

In 1969 there were 510 "R" code Cougars total---304 automatics and 206 4 speed. Out of those there were 243 "R" code Eliminators---162 automatics and 81 4 speeds. To get a specific breakdown of 3:91 and 4:30 geared cars Kevin has a form you fill out and send and he can tell you most anything you want to know.

the numbers say that there should be 1064 R code 69's. the numbers you cite seem to be hardtop only figures and that should be 304 automatic and 204 stick not 206. hawkrod

Yes, the numbers I quoted were for hardtops; isn't that what we were talking about--hardtop or Eliminators. My Marti book says 206 4 speeds with a footnote.

i just made the correction in case somebody was not paying attention and started quoting your post as gospel for all production. too many people don't pay enough attention. no offense, hawkrod

oh, and another thing, the 2 odd 4 speed cars are probably the 2 cars sent to karkraft and converted to boss 429's. just a guess but i would lay good odds. hawkrod
