enjoying working on my new cougar so far, but unable to fix the sequential taillights/brake. running lights work, and the emergency flashers worked, so i replaced the turn signal switch behind the steering wheel today and connected all the corresponding wires. its exactly the same; no turn signals, no brake lights, but flashers. does anyone have any ideas?

i appreciate the link, but ive read that page a half dozen times. according to that my problem should be the switch, which makes sense. perhaps ill try replacing the fusebox, the 'emergency' fuse prong looks almost corroded through

First thing I would do is replace all the bulbs. Over time, the contact points on the bulb bases can wear and cause contact problems.

Make sure the sockets are secure in the reflector housing.

Make sure the grounds (There is one on each side) from the taillight harness are clean and have good contact with the taillight panel.

I had some issues in the past. Went through everything still nothing. I checked the fuse and the resistance was very high - replaced the fuse and now everything works great.
