A fellow Arizona Cougar club member is selling his 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7 hardtop - 302 J code project Cougar. This a rust free, accident free AZ/California car. (some rust on hood however). It was original a green/green car, but he was planning to make into a red/red car. It has red or maroon XR7 interior currently. Nice original option list, 4 barrel, automatic, power steering, power disc brakes, AC, console, tinted glass, 24 inch radiator, vinyl top, had a tilt wheel originally, but previous owner took it. Was running and driving a few years ago, mostly sitting around the past 8 years or so. Needs restoration. Nice console, and un-cracked dash pad included. New seat covers (vinyl). Decent carpet. Needs headliner and vinyl top. Also, includes a full set of restored front and rear aluminum trim (9 pieces). Asking price is firm @ $2500. Will ensure it is running for transport. Can send photos if interested. Contact Keith @ 623-221-8056 for more details. Styled steel wheels available at additional cost.

Pictures coming, please be patient. Car has the original decklide, quarters, etc. In fact the passenger quarter still is in original paint. Fenders and doors replaced with better quality ones. Both valances are nice. Console is nice! Dash pad not cracked, but shows some warpage. Interior needs some assembly, which we are working on now.

OK guys - this Cougar is still for sale - thought I had it sold several times local on Craigs list, but something always seems to come up...:uhoh:

Here are the details.

1968 68 Mercury Cougar XR7 Hardtop heavily optioned Project car! 302-4V, J code engine (pretty sure that this is original numbers matching engine), C4 automatic transmission seems to be in good condition, new battery, new 24 inch radiator, XR7 console in awesome condition (not installed), power steering, power disc brakes, AC (some underhood components missing), XR7 interior (door panels need vinyl dyed), tinted glass (good shaep), originally had a black vinyl top (now removed), originally had an AM/FM radio and tilt/tilt away wheel (but both are also missing - but rare speaker pods are still there). Have all the trim for the car that was removed, so really not missing anything.

Original black plate California car, same owner last ~8 years or so. Clear AZ title. Rust free Arizona and California car, except for one spot on the passenger front floor pan - should be an easy fix. This Cougar was original Ivy green/Ivy dark green interior, but now in primer for the most part (still shows some of the original paint on the quarters and decklid!). Fenders, doors, valance, grille, etc. all nice straight rust free AZ sheet metal. Does have some rust on the hood lip however.

Currently has Dark Red maroon interior. Front seat covers are new vinyl. Decent carpet. Dash pad is also decent but needs reinstalled. Does need new headliner and vinyl top. Back seat bottom is good, but top section needs re-upholstered (wrong color).

Currently the Cougar does run and drive (could be driven on a trailer or shipped), but probably not reliable since it has been sitting most of the last 5+ years. Gas tank and brakes are both good.

Current owner just doesn't have the time for this car - needs a new involved owner.

Front hood trim is restored - looks nice! I have more restored trim available, at a low cost if desired.

Factory styled steel wheels are not included in sale, but a set of 4 is available for $300 more.

Please contact the owner - Keith Griffin for more details (623) 221-8056.

Can send more photos to serious parties. Price is $2750 bottom line price.

The first post says $2500 but wheels are extra.

Post #4 says $2750 bottom line - does that include the wheels?

Correct - $2500 without styled steel wheels - your choice of hubcaps. $2750 with the styled wheels. If it wasn't so hot here in Arizona now, I would start using this car for my daily driver....
