There is currently no dome light in my 68 coupe. Was that common? The car has been restored before and a little haphazardly, so it might of just been left off. Does anyone have a picture of a 68project dome light? Where they the same as in Mustangs?
If it matters, mine has the "deluxe" interior, or whatever the term used by Mercury was. Thank you for any and all help.

No interior roof (dome) lights on the early 1967-70 Cougars.
Optional opera lights in the back seat, and overhead map lights on 1967-68 XR7.

Don, What does it take to install these opera lights in a standard '68 that didn't have them factory installed as an option?

No dome light in my '68, but I've yet to count up how many courtesy lights there are below knee level, they are everywhere. I also have 2 "push" switches in the drivers door pillar, no idea why.

Capn Crunch, really all it takes is lots of patience to install the "opra" lights. All the cars are prewired (it's a black w/blue stripe wire and it will be taped to the harness as it runs over the wheel hump on either side.) You will have to take out the back seat, and the package tray and then carefully pull the headliner loose along the bottm. You have to be carefull to pull it down then out and then put the light in and connect it. WCCC is working on doing a vidieo here soon. hope this helps.

Does your car have tilt tilt-away steering because they have two switches in the door post?

Yes, my '68 does have the tilt away steering, what does the extra switch do exactly?

Also, has anyone noticed the "high lighted" words every so often in our posts that bring up a advert when you hit 'em with the cursor?

The door jam switch sends a signal to the relay and lets the vacuum valve open supplying vacuum to the actuator. The actuator pulls the cable that releases the lock pawl allowing the spring loaded column to swing upward and towards the passenger side thus allowing the overweight, middle aged bald guy to swing his bread basket out the door with ease.

Really? I have to press the indicator wand down to release my steering coloumn upwards, do you think the vacuum/actuator isn't working?
