Hello! I am brand new to this forum as a member, but have scanned it for the last couple of years while building my car! I have a 1967 Cougar XR-7 with the woodgrain instrument panel inside the interior. I am looking to give my car a unique touch by possibly attempting to stain my original woodgrain panels with either a Java or Black stain. I am curious if this is possible, as I am not sure if the panel itself is a veneer or hardwood. Any insight/opinions on the idea would be appreciated!

Hey Buddy
i have a 68 xr7 its either hydrographic foiled metal or heat wrapped vinyl covering. Unlike timber i don't believe rubbing a color on will change it, but be cautious cause a thinners based paint may burn it.
