Trying to find my old '69 Cougar

    Greetings, all...

Trying to find my '69 Cougar that I had growing up as a young man with my Dad. It's been over ten years since I've known anything about the car, but here's what I have on it.

    It has a reassigned VIN# of 165G2360279T.

Here's what I remember about the car:

It's original color is white, when I owned it, the color was Maroon. Dad and I installed the Eliminator side stripes on it, the center hood stripe and put a silver cats head on the front.

Black leather/vinyl? interior, expandable headrests, tilt-away steering wheel, 3-speed auto transmission, I think I remember counting bellhousing bolts or something way back and it being a C6. No clue on engine, but I want to say 351-4bbl.

Sold the car when I went into the Navy and never should have (sold the car, that is). Last known location for the car was in SouthEast Michigan.

I'll add some pictures in here and man -- if there's ANYTHING any of you may be able to help me out with, please let me know. Even if someone here has the car, knows the car or whatever, even if not for sale.

    Thanks much!

Have you checked with Phil Parcells to see if the car is registered with the CCOA National database? That should be the first step anyone makes when trying to find a specific Cougar.

Randy, I have contacted Phil and there's no record of the car from my ownership or whomever the new owner is. As stated in the post, the dang VIN isn't what really belongs to the car... I'm at a loss, here.

Who reassigned the VIN to that specific number? Looks odd to me. In Colorado, if a vehicle is assigned a new vin, it ends with COLO or CO. Also, it would only have numbers prior to the state letters. Example is 40538COLO.
If it were a state, that state may still have the info on file as to what the original vin was/is. May help with the data base or??

Great idea and information. I am not in the state of MI right now, but my parents are and they're literally doing all the heavy lifting with this trying to track it down. I'll read up on the law in MI regarding reassigned VINs... This just got more interesting! Thanks!

Re: Trying to find my old '69 Cougar

Turns out, the "reassigned VIN" that we were told was the VIN number provided above, was actually the title number for the vehicle.

I've located the VIN, provided to it Phil and the only information he has is what I provided to him when I owned the vehicle.

What we did find out today from the Secretary of State and Law Enforcement -- the car has NOT been re-registered since when my parents sold the car, nor does it have current insurance on it. The Secretary of State also said that they would know if the vehicle was totaled/salvaged, which she said it was not.

Looks like we're in a "barn find" type situation in South East Michigan...

Haha, Google definitely has been handy, but I cannot locate any paperwork on who bought the car. I remember where they live (I think) but that was so long ago... Here's to hoping!

Well, if it isn't too far you could always drive by and knock on the door, or leave a note. Who knows, maybe the car is still sitting in thier garage / driveway waiting for you :-)
