Fmx 31 spline torque converter help

Hello cant find anywhere a fmx tourque converter for my cougar elim 351c Mine is a 31 spline and all that I see are 29 model fmx PHB-P RS Is this a special FMX TO THE ELIMINATOR?

Ordered one from Summitt and had engine on crane ready to go in and converter would not fit...

I do see 31 spine c6

You should have 29 splines if it is a Fomoco / Mercury FMX. Best bet is to call the converter manufacturer. If you ordered the correct one for an FMX it should fit your FMX.

Royce Im going out to make sure its a fmx the shaft is 31 spline It could be c6 Ill let you know best mike

Easy to tell the difference. FMX has a separate bell housing and is cast iron. C6 has an integral bell housingand is all aluminum.

Some history on the 70 Elim The Marti report said fmx The guy that I bought the car from said fmx I did notice during restoration that there was no rust in center where cast iron should be but just thought it was painted.
So last night after lots of research I found the easiest way to determine a 1970 ish ford tranny was the count the bolts on the tranny pan.
So a few min's ago I did!!! Guess what I have a c-6 with 17 bolts I was thinking of doing a swap a year ago glad I didn't Summitt was great they going to pay for Torque converter return and I'm going to order one now Thanks again mike

I am glad you got it figured out.... on a side note ... Summitt has always been very generous to me... they seem to understand things happen and are more then willing to help a customer out as much as they can ..

Put the new converter in the c-6 and the engine in fine now Even got the Sanderson shorty headers in,,, Thanks again.. Best

I think you've got something mixed up. The output shaft is 31 spline just like the C6. But the input shaft is not. All FMX have a common input shaft. So any of the converters that fit FMX will be fine.

whatever you call the shaft that goes all the way in the torque converter 31 for a fmx it is 29 not a tranny guy for sure thanks mike
