Royce. Brand new rebuilt 390 overheats after static run at 2000 rpms. Coolant boils out of the radiator and carb begins to backfire, ford blue paint on the heads turns brown. New radiator, water pump, thermostat installed during rebuild.

    Hey Royce,

I am trying to determine if this oil pan is correct for my 1969 Cougar with a 428CJ and Automatic. I think this may be for a 1968 390 as it doesn't appear to have the windage tray. My Cat was produced on May 29th, 1969. I would appreciate your opinion, but I can't figure out how to attach the photos. Thank you.

Does anyone know the torque specification for the 10 bolts that hold the third member onto an 8 inch housing?

Just need the bezel itself. I have a good set of wood grain parts that you sold me some time ago. My bezel is toast.

John Gunnell here. I'm an auto writer. I also own a restoration shop. We hosted the International Mercury Owners assoc. during the Iola Old Car Show in Wisconsin. One of their members is manager of Ford's Dearborn Stamping Plant who owns a '67 Cougar 390. His engine blew and he had the car towed to our shop.

I am currently trying to remove the cylinder heads. The 390 is packaged tightly and I have been able to get out only six head blots on each side -- the five towards the center of the car and the first one on each side towards the fender. The other bolts seem impossible. Can you give me tips?

If the problem is not in the cylinder head we may pull the engine. Any advice on that.

My email is Gunnellj@TDS.net if you would want to chat by email, which I'm much better at.

Royce, my brother Dennis Pierachini recently registered my 1968 XR-7G with you. I have a question as to if you have information on it's mileage? The odometer reads 46,xxx. The pedals are not worn to bad.
    Thanks, Kevin

Royce, I ordered saddle tan leather seat upholstery for my 1967 XR7 and when it arrived I noticed the back seat is almost entirely vinyl. There is a bit of leather around the edge of the seat back, but the bottom of the seat is entirely vinyl. The front seats are leather with the correct amount of vinyl around the sides. They appear to be correct. My question is if the backseat is to be almost entirely made of vinyl? Or I should be getting in contact with the manufacturer and complaining? I paid a lot of money for these seats to be correct factory reproductions so I want to be informed before I complain. Thanks.

I hate to bother you, but I'm new at the forum and was just curious how I could go about getting the original information on my XR7..(interior color...exterior color, etc) Would you be able to give me a good direction to take? Thanks, Dave

    Royce:
I'm frustrated with this forum's posting. I placed an ad yesterday for some Cougar Manuals I wanted to sell, it said they had to be approved- there went an hour wasted because they were gone, and I did not keep a copy. So today I tried again but made it short & fast, it worked. Then I went back under edit and added an image from ImageShack and now when I wave over the heading I see the script but when I click on it nothing Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh What am I doing wrong?

I moved your post to the "Cougars for sale" section because it included discussion of an active auction.

There is a 68 XR-7 with the 390, C6, 9" on ebay and the seller
states that the badge is 6.5 liter and only the 390 car with
a 4 speed is a GT. Is this correct?
