My name is Ingvar and I live in Sweden. I wonder, could any one give me
a price range for a 1969 Cougar XR7 Convertible equipped with a
428CJ, C6, 9 inch Limited Slip rear, fully equipped. I have the
opportunity to buy one in good condition (not perfect, but good).
According to the owner it is an original, one of 36 built so he is
asking a bundle.

I'd believe him on the production numbers. Based off Nadaguides and my own personal experience, I should think that for a decent #2 car, the price would be between 16000-23000 depending on it overall condition and authenticity. A max on the car in #1 would be about 25000 or so.

Now, if the car is actually in europe, well, that makes it even harder to get your hands on over there, so adjust the price accordingly. In a limited supply situation, the price tends to become whatever people are willing to pay.

My 2 pennies.

Have seen the car and it checks out. Still have to convince the owner to sell it
to me. What the car needs is a paint job and new seats. Is there anyone
manufacturing new interior for these cars?

There are a number of vendors here in the US that sells reproduction seat upholstery... Usually around $300 US or so...

Ingvar....check out Stang-It for the seats...they remanufacture factory correct upholstery sets and quite reasonably too.

Here are NADA figures:

Total Low Retail: $9,363
Total Average Retail: $16,975
Total High Retail: $26,250
* prices do not reflect a #1 show car

Popular Mechanics:
1969 Cougar convertible 428-4V 335 Q (CJ) 28,000 23,000 19,200 15,800 10,500
428-4V 335 R (CJ-R) 30,000 25,000 21,000 16,800 10,200

One sold on eBay recently for $15,000 and it was below average condition IMHO.
Rich Ladd's beautiful 70 XR7 428CJ conv. went for $32,000 two years ago. (Values are about the same, even though 70s are a lot rarer).

There were 96 made. How many are left is uncertain.
Did you get any pics, VIN or DATA plate info? Contact me, see below. Thanks!

An XR7 uses leather and it is more than$300. I can check on prices for you if you want.

You're right, my bad. I should've been a little more explanative. (is that even a word:confused: ) Anyway, the $300 is for XR7 recovers in vinyl. The Leathers through Stang-it (if you can get them to respond), are over $1100 for a set.

Forget about Stang-It , contact John Baumann at John's Classic Cougars. He will make the leather interior to order. And it costs less than Stang-It and you will actually talk to someone and receive your order!
email John at [email protected] or online at http://www.johnsclassiccougars.com/

Cool. Didn't know John was doing Leathers... :)

Fortunately my original leather seats are purrrrfect already, so I don't need to mess with THAT expense...
