discbrakeswap.com - Anyone heard of them or dealt with them?

I'm doing the brakes on my car this spring and I'm upgrading to Discs on the front. The kit at discbrakswap.com is a smoking deal at $550 but it uses inhouse made repro spindles..

Checking out their website makes me alittle more frieghtened because I can not find ANY contact information on who "they" are or where they are. I've emailed the guy for info tonight and I'll keep you updated on his reply.

If everything is on the level and the spindles are certified and I can get some personal testimonials (I asked for some people I could call that have used his kits in the email hopefully he responds with some) that kit seems like a wild deal. I've seen spindle kits alone that cost $350. Getting everything I need for the swap in a box at a $550 pricetag seems crazy good. Which is why Im here posting this

Anyways if no one has dealt with them before I'll definitely keep ya all updated.

PS: Just on a side note. I've got a local guy with a couple of 72 Torinos that both have manual disc brakes. (yes thats right manual front disc rear drum.) I can snag the whole setup out of his car for $500 but thats with me doing all the work and I'm left with 35 year old parts that might be completely screwed. It's a given the Master cylinder needs to get tossed but the rotors could be bad/warped etc.. The calipers are most likely siezed (both cars have been outside in the weather for the last 10-15 years) so they are useless. This kit looks like the way to go. Hopefully someone has heard of it.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Im such a silly twit. I always find the info I'm after when I set down and get serious about it. Just a warning in advance all. Don't ever cross me I'm your worst stalking nightmare gone wild.. Ask me to tell you the story of how I got my Cougar some time if you don't believe me haha.

The company is out of Austin, TX and he has sold the kit to several folks.

Seems like a one man show but he seems to have a decent enough rep. I'm surprised I hadnt seen his kit before this week. I've certainly looked for the conversion kits in the past.

It's very likely that I am going to go ahead with this swap. It'll be a few months but I'll be sure to let you all know how it works out.

Edit: Just clarifying incase someone else does a search here about it.

Lol I must've spelt something wrong when I searched earlier because I didnt come up with anything but I see that Im not the first person to ask about this kit on these forums and Denis has actually come here and posted about the kit. Seems good enough to me. I'll send him another email about the specifics of a 1967 cougar setup as there appear to some very subtle diffs in the 67 year that might be an issue.

    Thumbs up

The proprietor of DiskBrakeSwap.com posts here as DennisG.

Although I have not purchased an entire brake kit from him, I did purchase a set of front calipers and a pair of front flex hoses. The order was shipped quickly, and when I had a question there was a speedy response. The calipers even included all the mounting hardware and anti-rattle clips, along with a fresh set of pads. The hoses included the copper sealing washers too.

Price for the calipers and hoses was less than the local cost of calipers alone.

I kind of let this thread alone for a day because I did hear back from him but we didnt really hit it off. I know everyone has bad days and good days and so I wanted to just leave it be. I had asked some questions regarding the safety of the spindles, who produced them, had they been tested, how many units approx were out there etc and I seem to have hit a sore spot or something.

In fairness to Denis, hundreds of people have bought parts from him through Ebay. (Hey Denis maybe you might think about putting that little tidbit up on your website so people can check your feedback there. Just a thought) I know nothing about alloy's and the manufacture of parts but his response to me certainly didnt inspire large ammounts of confidence.

My take on it is this. He can provide a great kit, complete and ready to go for most front disc swap applications at a very competative price. I have to say at this point that I dont think his spindles that he provides are DOT tested or certified in any way ( I get the distinct impression that no one has tested them for strength or duability) and without knowing more information about the strength of the metals etc I really simply dont know how strong they are. God help someone who has an accident and it get's blamned on the spindle.

I could be mistaken and as I said, we all have off days. This is a poster child example of why I don't think Vendor +/- threads are good things. I would've rated him a double minus and yet his Ebay feedback is flawless. Now I have a sour taste in my mouth and TBH I'd rather pay double and get the parts from someone who is willing to stand behind his gear and answer the most basic questions about one of the most mission critical systems on a car.. The braking/steering system.

good luck finding anyone but an OEM who can afford to have their spindles DOT certified, seriously. that's multi tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to get done and as you said Dennis is a one man show, no way he can afford to have that done, in fact there's no way that most companies selling spindles can have that done. i personally would not have a problem buying anything from Dennis, in fact he is working on a 1.5" dropped spindle setup for our cars right now and i plan on buying a set of those for 69 cougar as soon as they're available

sorry to bump this thread, but I thought that I should leave some feedback for discbrakeswap.com since I recently ordered and installed one of the kits....

First off the customer service was good.. no complaints....
The packages arrived on time as he said they would and even emailed me the tracking numbers the day that information was available. When they arrived, I noticed that everything was nicely packaged for protection. Parts fitment was perfect and quality also great. The only complaint that I have, is for the basic installer, there were no instructions for this kit. The swap 2 kit is posted online, but I used swap 3. Overall VERY happy customer here!!
