    Holley 4150 Dashpot

Did all Holley 4150 4V carburetors have a dash pot, or was that used just for standard transmissions?

    Thanks,

Depends on the application. The 4150 carbs were used on 390GT engines, W code 427 engine, also 428CJ. What application are you talking about?

I don't know about Torinos or Cyclones, but the 428 CJ Mustangs and Cougars had dash pots in both 68 and 69. They had manual choke and solenoids in '70 for some reason.

    Re: Holley 4150 Dashpot

Thank's Royce for your input. I had once read where Ford had a problem with the CJ automatic choke (exhaust manifold controlled) taking too long to heat up and open. This resulted in cold weather vehicles being particularly difficult to control due to the high idle in slick conditions for too long. Could be a myth but personally I can believe it. Their cure was to put the choke duration responsibility on the owner, hence, the manual choke for the last year of production.

Pretty archaic but a bean counter, low budget cure , if true.

I believe the solenoids were only on the carbs for AC cars in '70. My '70 SCJ, 4-speed, non-AC just has the dash pot (and manual choke), but no solenoid. My understanding is that my setup is correct, based on the 428CJ carb ID page and factory manual for dash pot adjustment.

Thanks Mike, it appears we have the same taste in cars as I have an 03 Cobra too! I have ordered an NOS dashpot I was fortunate enough to locate. Boy has engineering come a long way....

    Re: Holley 4150 Dashpot

Yeah - the solenoids were to compensate for when the AC compressor kicks on. As I recall they didn't work all that well for very long anyway........
