    70 XR7 switches

70 owners, the 4 switches in the dash (map courtesy panel accy) are they hot all the time or does key have to be on? I want to use the accy for a remote trunk release but I want it hot all the time. Thanks, CS

The accy has no wires to it at all. The others are for interior lights and do have power to them. I would run a new wire from the fuse box or hot side of the starter solenoid under the hood for this. Use a in line fuse near where you pick up the power. The potential problem is usually a switch for a trunk lock would ne a Momentary contact switch. Meaning it is spring loaded and when you take your finger off it it will return to the off position. The switch in the accy position is just an on and off switch. You may be able to insert a window switch in the the bezel and have it work this way. Let us know how this works for you. I can't use it as I have a rear defogger in my hard top and my convertible uses that switch for the top.

Thanks Badcat, I did some rework on that switch to make it a momentary switch, let off and it shuts off. I wired it in a few months ago but got to wondering if it was live or needed key power. The car is still in pieces so I can't just test it.

I've used the Wirthco 30200 fuse block taps for adding assy power. Here's the web link: http://www.wirthco.com/pdf/Fuse%20Ta...%20Holders.pdf Also, our local "non big-box" auto parts store stocked them, so probably easy to obtain.

Thanks Katnip, That looks like a good idea. I also have a newer radio that needs full time hot wire for memory. I looked and the local Napa has them.

That's a fine idea. I mounted the factory type pushbutton switch (from a later model car as the electric latch was) in/on the underside (horizontal surface) of the lower dash so it is hidden but easy to find, right above the drivers right knee/leg.

Just an FYI, Window switches are bigger than the switches in the dash switch bezel so are not interchangeable.
