1967 Cougar Xr-7 289:

Took off the lower hose with the intention of replacing it. I noticed that the lower hose has a spring in it to (I presume) prevent it from collapsing. The replacement lower radiator hose that I got does not not have the spring.

Any thoughts on this? I am thinking about going back and getting the replacement hose that has the spring in it.

Thanks,

Steve

Make sure you use a hose with a spring. And you are correct on why the spring is there.

I often just swap the spring over to the new hose.

Of course no one had the parts that I needed to have (Thanks CarQuest!). So that is just what I did. I cut the old hose down the middle lengthwise and removed the spring and installed it into the new lower hose. Took a little time to get in around the radius, but well worth the effort.

Thanks for the input!

I had the same problem. I bought some wire (14 gage) and wraped it around a pole. Problem solved.

That will work!
